dilla, as for previously stated reasons. his beats have the most musicality. he can layer like ten different samples. and the best drums out of all the producers.
Dre is highly overrated. a lot of his songs are just ripped of entirely from other records without changing anything, and then he pays off the original artist under the table without giving them credit, so people think he played all the music himself, when he didnt.

Me personally it is a toss up between Premier and Alchemist.

Premier when with Gang Starr made some crazy hits, and he was the one who made some classics off of Nas's Illmatic album, worked with Jay and others. Most of the artist best tracks where his productions. Has a style of his own.

On the other hand I am a Alchemist fan. He has some unique tracks, and the fact that he can produce an entire album says alot about him as a producer. I really enjoyed what he did with Prodigy on Return of The Mac I have his other cd's like 1st infantry and he had some hardcore beats just how I like them.

It's a two man contest, Dre, and Primo, but Dre takes it, because he has continuously innovated and adapte with the times. As great as he is and as sick as he made the formula sound, DJ Premier only used one style. He mastered the style, but Dre has mastered several styles, and possibly made the best album beatwise ever.

Probably Dre. In his prime he carried gangsta rap from N.W.A.and Dogg Pound to Eminem and Curtis,... Sh** that was hard to say when there is Dj Primier at his prime carryin' the ruggetness of hip-hop music.Love them all>Peace to all Producers holdin' it down out there while in the days of limited talent.Shoutout to, Havoc of Mobb Deep,Hi-Teknology,Kayne West,Pete Rock,Dilla and etc.

When I came into this topic, I was thinking Dr. Dre. Automatically. And now I see he's first on your list! :D :D

Kanye's not bad either.

jay dee aka j dilla

in my opinion, he makes the best beats, and not all of them (none, maybe) are the repetetive sounds that you hear all the time like just blaze. ill give you a nod on dj premier tho, hes one of my favorites also. but back to dilla. his beats are so abstract, but great. they at first sound simple, but as you listen to the beats more and more, you discover new things about them. and personally, i think he uses the best samples in the best way. so there you have it, jay dee all day.

well, no such thing as best but my favorite of all time is J dilla.
He really is the most innovative producer and has the most musicality in his songs. he can go from soulful to funky better than anyone. Pete Rock comes a close second. if you dont think so, i recommend you listen to INI's center of attention which is one of the best produced albums of all time.
