when he does try to swim he has to jerk through the water on his side and he rests on top of the water on his back/side. He looks like he is dead, and I will see his eyes move and he will move elsewhere to rest. He cannot eat normally. I hate seeing him like this. Please tell me this is something I can do. I have tried raising H2O temp, adding salt, and cleaning more often.

A) What type goldfish is it? Most don't want salt in their water.

B) How did you raise the temp? Room temp is good.

C) Did you "age" the water before you changed it? Chlorine will make them sick.

D) Have you turned on the AC? Cold will slow them down (feed them less often in cooler weather).

F) Any new plants/items in the water? May be poisoning him.

G) How old is the fish??

The floating on the top of the water upside down and the jerking swimming motion strongly suggest that the fish is probably suffering from swim bladder problem.

What you can do is to change 50% water twice a week for the next two week.

Get some frozen peas, soak them in water and remove the skin. Cut it down to size and feed them to your goldfish, if it's still able to feed.

At the same time you could go to the aquarium shop and get some medication for Swim Bladder Disease, if they don't have those get any anti-bacteria available and dose as recommended.

SBD for goldfish is pretty hard to fix and usually you will end up losing the fish.

Good Luck.

imean are you some how overlooking the obvious
ammonia levels, doing a complete clean in your tank(which is very bad), not using dechlorinator for the tap water, ph levels, any signs of sickness
perhaps, ich, swim bladder disease, changeing filter cartridges every month or sooner these are the questions you must take into consideration
