Your name tells me everything I need to know. Open a history book and do some real reading. We lost the Vietnam war dear, and lost even more men and women than we have now or at least for now. There was heinous torture of our troops look it up. Or talk to a Vietnam Vet, let one of them tell you " we won that war" I would love to see his or her reaction to your statement!!!!!!

We won in Viet Nam? What twisted history books you been reading? We abandoned that country and it was soon over-run by the VC. Better than 46,000 men and women were killed there, and for what? We have troops in China? Since when? When we leave Iraq it will disintegrate into a civil war between the three factions that are fighting each other now. Every Gen X and later generations should be required to watch "Apocalypse Now" "Full Metal Jacket" and "Platoon" might just give you a small glimpse of what went on there.

Reading some of the comments, many of are wrong about vietnam. Yes, we had a terrible war with them, and millions of lives were lost, but look at the relationship today: We trade openly with vietnam and we talk with them peacefully. The same can happen with Iraq too. When the Vietnam war ended, did we see vietnam communists come to our country and attack us? No, just like if we were to leave Iraq, they wouldn't come over here. France and the U.S. had been in the vietnam for 27 years!!! And yet today, the country is on the move! Iraq is a sad repeat of vietnam and the korean war. We didnt accomplish anything and our policy absolutely failed. We didnt even declare war on any of these countries!! What the questioner is saying that we can have peace with iraq! Peace is a powerful message folks and it does work. "We can accomplish much more through peace than we ever could through war."--Ron Paul
So, dont believe the media folks, Research Ron Paul yourself, and dont believe media. ANd yes I understand that when we leave Iraq, there will many problems, just like vietnam, but the sooner we leave, the less problems there will be. Folks, do u really think the answer is to stay in iraq for 10, 15 or 20 years and lose countless more american lives?! Its a war we cannot win. How many times will history repeat itself? I would urge you interested to search for Ron Paul on youtube or google to find out more. He has a lot of good ideas, u should check it out.

You realize they are changing their minds now and lying more? WE lost vietnam and we moved out. But less people died and now you can visit Vietnam as a tourist spot. Yes, you can. It's fine now.
George Bush rejected comparisons to Vietnam since the very beginning and now, today marks a new direction to spin this war. But things got better when we left Vietnam because less civilians were DYING. But they still had to deal with the chemicals, devistation and land mines. You can't undo that and no matter what, Iraq will never be the same again thanks to us. That's right. WE destroyed their infrastructure and many of the educated and rich in Iraq have fled the country.
No matter how George wants to spin it, it's still rotten. And that people are falling for it makes me ill.

There is no similarly between Vietnam and Iraq conflict.
I think you are missing some real facts. We didn't win in Vietnam we pull out and we didn't have troops in China. Where did you get your information?

Ive seen a lot of knee-jerking, but this one takes the cake...
Interesting way of distorting things, Goober, and everybody fell in line.
I understand the point Bush meant, but we all know the spin doctors are going to have their way on it...
I wonder if someone reads him the Miranda before a speech...I seriously doubt it.
The close-minded will remain closed, Goober, and the rest will have to make up their minds.
The draft should be reinstated if for no other reason than because many in this country will fight harder to allow someone to break the law rather than stand to uphold it...and through their service, we can honestly say they did something for someone else themselves rather than wait for the government to do something then say "America is great."

Yo...Goober
1. We lost in Vietnam,
2. We don't have great relations with them now,
3. China is most definitely still communist too,
and if you want Iraq to turn out the same way I feel for you but far less then I feel for the million or so people who sided with freedom and peace who will be murdered by the radicals of Islam that "hate" them, America and anyone else they disagree with - including YOU.

Not sure if you have actually read History, but we didn't win Vietnam. We withdrew from Vietnam as we will do in Iraq. We can't come in and for a few years change centuries of cultural behaviors. The kind of groups that are against the U.S. intervention are against our very culture.

I'm going to be gentle with my answer.... At the end of that war there really wasn't a winner, read more into it and if you can talk to a couple vets for more insight on that conflict.
I hope to god the Iraq issue does not come close to the amount of fallen soldiers we lost in vietnam.
I do hope Iraq is able to get there gov't up and running so we can get our guys out of there.

just a quick number fact for all those who think Iraq is heading in the wrong direction: Vietnam- over 50,000 K.I.A.
Iraq- over 3,500 K.I.A.
history will remember the Iraq war based on merits and numbers not on opinions.

The U.S. did not in anyway win the war in Vietnam.
They COULD have, if the were given the opportunity to actually put a full force effort into it.
As it was, they were restricted by the policies of the day.
Iraq is very similar in that respect.
The U.S. should not be in Iraq and the whole situation is absurd, to say the least.
One day the U.S. will be shown that they are not the police of the world and that the planet does not have to operate the way the U.S. operates.
