Doesn't it seem to be a socially acceptable way of limiting expression of rebellion, or to question authority?

Of course. Being politically correct means running with the pack. Having a pack mentality. Freedom of Speech is about speaking your individual thoughts. It's about expressing what you personally think. Being politically correct pays the bills, freedom of speech will get you fired.

politically safe speech which has been tested as being neutral. Any other language would be seen as an assault which would ( in theory) give reason to defend ones position in leadership. It does limit the height of rebellion by the mass populations to a more containable group.

i do. because, to be politically correct, you can never speak the whole of your mind. i sincerly doubt i will ever be politically correct, i am way too opinionated.
