Why do americans don't like to listen to music they dont understand?..because many people form other foreign countries listen to music in ENGLISH yes in english and they still like it plus they don't understand a word what english songs say...Why are americans so self-centered and never listen to the other wonderful music out there, and it doesn't have to be in english but in spanish, french, italian, portuguese.
Many latinamerican groups try to crossover but they can't beacuse americans don't like foreign language music, whic to make it in the U.S music market they forcely have to sing in english...could this mexican pop group be successul in the american market?...would americans accept them?...is it the type of music americans listen to?

Because everyone wants to be like Americans in some way. The problem is that most Americans don't give a crap about something they don't understand. Why would we listen to something we can't comprehend or understand?

Any generalization about any group of people is probably more incorrect than factual. Hence the assumption that Americans don't like to listen to non-English music is probably true for some Americans, but perhaps not the majority of them. The Youtube video was pleasant enough, but would not be one of my favorites. However, it's appeal was greatly enhanced by the ability to watch the beautiful girls sing. There are vast differences between Americans when it comes to musical taste. No doubt there are others besides me who can enjoy any decent quality form of music, in any language. Consider also that a lot of popular American music can not be understood by other Americans, and we are really good at disapproving of each other's tastes in music. There are some American neighborhoods where the "wrong" kind of music coming from a vehicle is likely to draw gunfire. I wonder if that's true for other countries as well...besides Iraq, I mean...

I don't necessarily think that "Americans" don't listen or appreciate Latin/French/Italian music. It's just that American don't care too much about where the music is comming from. As far as crossing over goes there are several Latin artists that have shifted into mainstream America. I personally love Salsa/Latin Rock etc. and I listen to various Latin artists. Will Latin /Italian/French music take over in mainstream American? ...I doubt it. Americans, just like these other nations tend to support their own artists first.
Due to the Media and America being one of the wealthiest countries, some foreign people right or wrong "idolize" what they think American life is about...this is a much deeper issue and another topic ;-) And that is why 50 Cent gets airplay in Germany, Italy, Spain....it's just the way of the world. The big dog is leader of the pack.
Decisions in the music industry are also based on what sells rather than what "sounds" good. In my opinion Britney Spears has absolutely no talent...but for some odd reason people like her and her first album sold millions...I hate that there are even a number of African Americans who are musically talented but for some reason are over looked because people would rather listen to G-Unit or Snoop Dogg gangster rap which to me isn't music at all. Where are all the good black artists like Jill Scott Raphael Saadiq or Angela Stone? they are second rate to this overhyped gangster crap...anyway I will quit but there's my 2 cents.

Who says ALL Americans don't like other cultures music? Do You KNOW EVERY American? I think not. Besides, America is made up of many cultures all listening to the music they like. Japanese Americans, Latin Americans, Italian Americans.etc They are Americans and they listen to what ever music pleases them. If it is music of their culture, does that mean they are not Americans? NO

American (and some other English speaking countries) music is at the fore front of the industry.
Foreign music must take some getting used to as it seems "old fashioned" and odd to our ear.

I listen to opera, and I know that thousands of people do as well. Almost none of it is in English. Foreign "pop" just isn't good musically.

Many Americans listen to music of other languages. You are lumping everyone together and not everyone is the same. Please learn just because some don't, doesn't mean that everyone doesn't.
