Gah! I *hate* how that happens. I call them "cringe moments". Out of nowhere I'll think of something stupid I did a year ago and *cringe*. =P It's more likely to happen when you're feeling down. It's the way neurochemistry works -- when you're in a lower mood, you find it easier to remember negative things and harder to remember positive things. It's normal. I try to just laugh when it happens. It's good to be able to laugh at your foibles and let them go. Everybody does dumb things sometimes, and your social blunders don't make you a bad person.

Those moments stay in your head because you lack confidence and beat yourself up over your shortcomings. Everyone has shortcomings and makes mistakes but, those who have more confidence can laugh at themselves and get over them more easily. Try to think of all the good things you do and be proud of them. Learn to accept the fact that we all do things which embarrass us at some time or another; laugh at it and go on to something else. If you have a sense of humor about things, it will be a bit easier to deal with.

just like you can do a ton of good, and the second you do something wrong nobody will let you live it down! you keep replaying it because that's just how embarrassed you were. try to think of something else when you catch yourself reliving the moment

its Because you tend to remember them since the're embarrassing, and you can't get over them, since you may think people really think about that moment alot, but they don't, they would think its another funny thing that happened a while ago.
