I don't disagree with you. However.. right, wrong, or indifferent, we're there. I think the concern of many and by no means all Americans are, what happens to those that have supported us? In that way, it would prove to be another Vietnam.
Other than that, I see no comparisons between the two. We could have won in Vietnam a thousand times over. Our own government would not allow it.

First THANK YOU so much for your service to our country.
I think you missed the point Bush was making. He was pointing out the devastation that ensued after we left Vietnam.
One thing that many don't understand the good that actually happened from our involvement in Vietnam was that it actually stopped any expansionist ideas the communist's had at the time. South Vietnam was a loss, due to our dysfunctional politicians of the time but they apparently had much bigger plans that didn't happen. It could have and would have turned out completely different had the congress kept Thier micro managing BS out of it.
What Bush is pointing out is that if we leave now, it is quite obvious that we'll have another "killing fields"/"pol pot" situation going on.
I respect your desire of not wanting us in there in the first place. But we are there and we just can't pick up and leave Iraq like we did in SE Asia.

Not really. It would be the same result from a plan that already failed. If we quit, we give yourselves no opportunity to win or succeed whereas if we just pull out we fail, no matter what. Unfortunately people get the agruments mixed up. The question no longer is whether or not it was a good decision to get into Iraq but what are we going to do now once we are there. There is alot more riding on this than just one president's policy. We must take the long term view and how it will affect our country down the road.

Let's see; The "New Left" conned the world into believing that we were wrong to stop the communists who were causing the war in Vietnam, and elected politicians who agreed with them. What happened next? The communist conquest of South Vietnam, the communist conquest of Laos, TWO communist conquests of Cambodia(the first bloodier and more infamous than the second), the people that the hippies CLAIMED to care about fleeing for their lives on makeshift boats to the free world, every other red army getting the message that they could do whatever they pleased because America didn't have the guts to stand up to them, every NON-red army getting the same message in places like Jonestown, Lebanon, and Somalia. No, Bush is right on target, and I seriously wonder how well you remember Vietnam, if you forgot that we were proven right as soon as the reds were ready to take over.

I supported the war when it started, and I support the war now. Regardless of that, the fact is that we are there and that it is in the best interest of our country, and Iraq, that we win.
Our military has done a fantastic job and all evidence points to the troop surge working.
I think Bush is using the Vietnam analogy largely because we had the chance to win in Vietnam. After Nixon took over the war was going strongly in our favor. However Congress decided to cut funding for the war and the rest is history.
I believe that Americans do not believe in failure. Vietnam was a failure because our politicians gave up without a thought of the sacrifice of the thousands of dead Americans. Regardless of whether or not you believe the war was right from the beginning, I believe the effort should be supported.

Probably he realized that the American public already got bored and tired of his old rhetorics ("If US troops pulls out of Iraq, Al Qaeda and the terrorists will rule and will follow us here at home"). So he now uses a new rhetoric ("If US troops pulls out of Iraq, it will end-up just like Vietnam"). Perhaps this is the change of strategy that Bush was promising to do all along.

What Country did you Serve?
President Bush is simply telling the Truth about what will happen in Iraq. That is what happened in Vietnam when the Cowardly Politicians cut and ran Us out of Vietnam when we were winning. Millions died because of these same Cowards!

W has no shame, it's like he has a bag of tricks and as he fails to rally the USA to his side, he pulls another one out and runs it up the flag pole to see it anyone salutes it. The Vietnam analogy must be at the bottom of his trickery. This is a man that used his fathers connections to skip ahead on the line in the Texas Air National Guard, then stopped training because he new he would fail the drug or alcoholic test. Then said on Meet the Press that he did not take the physical because his doctor was unavailable, and Tim Russet, did not challenge him on the fact that in the service, no one gets a physical with their private doctor. Then he sat out the rest of his time drunk in Alabama. Don't get me started on Cheney having better things to do with his time. Most of those that call others cowards over Vietnam are ones that never wore the uniform. We never could have won the war in Vietnam because it was a civil war as is Iraq

I still don't know why we went to Nam and I'm glad we left. it's a shame what happened when we left, but that outcome was determined when we entered. the same is true with Iraq. the Die is cast, and the outcome will be the same, this year, next year, or ten years. that is the tragedy of war, a neat tidy out come almost never happens except on TV.
