well first you need to get over your shyness before you can do anything... before trying out for your school shows just take the basic theatre class. They are loads of fun and they can help you get out of your shell. My theatre teacher is so funny and outgoing... she makes us act and do stuff you'd never do in public... and people laugh at themselves... everyone has to do it and it is really funny and we look goofy but no one makes fun. don't just let any of that talent go to waste get out there and let your light shine brightly. You're not alone.

Honestly you have to get over the shyness. You have to go for it. If you find that really hard, the best place to over come that is in class. You really need to get training whether you start in school by taking drama or theatre as your elective and/or taking classes at a local theatre or drama school. You can also get tips on stage fright (as well as MANY other things) on sites like:
www.musicaltheatreaudition.com &
www.stageagent.com
There are auditions in Indiana, they're just very few and far between. You can try looking here:
www.backstage.com - casting search
www.actorsaccess.com
However, your best bet is to see if your state has a film alliance / commission / society or whatever your state calls theirs (some have more than one). Sometimes they post audition information for projects filming locally. Do a internet search for "Indiana film" and see what sites come up. Investigate them thoroughly. Many times the sites will list auditions or notices when a local productions need actors even if they only need extras, at least it's something and for someone who's shy that may be the best way to get your feet wet. Sometimes they even have acting class info. If not you can try emailing them and asking if they know where you can get that information. Better to ask people in the industry than cross your fingers and hope for the best with the phone book.
good luck!

Well it is true that Indiana has no acting auditions. I live in Indiana and im in 8th and i have gotten acting parts in movies. BUt you have to go to like Florida or California to audition. Yes you do need to practice in school plays. Try out for the school lead in your next musical. To get over being nervous you just take a couple deep breathes and then audition. Also pick a random person in the audience and watch them. Try not to pick someone you know or they might make you mess up. Just remember everyone else is nervous, too. i was nervous when i first auditioned and now it think it is really fun. To help you get better at getting over your nerves, volunteer first for class speeches.
to help you better on being an actor you need an agent. But don't pay up front until you know they aren't just spamming you.
Good Luck!

ok, i understand what you are going through. Yes, its true, trying out for school plays is extremely helpful, because you learn more about how to perform and study your craft. But, if you are really too shy to try out, I say go online or to a library, find some monologues for kids your age, and go in your room, and practice them! Just read them aloud to yourself, and try to say them with emotion. Its great to know monologues because when you go to auditions, they will often ask you to perform one for them. Find out about any acting classes that are near you and are at an affordable price. These are better if you're shy rather than trying out for the school play, because its not so much of a competition as really learning how to become a better actor. Also, you can look online for open auditions near you. And yes, there will definately be auditions for things in Indiana, because there are actors everywhere. You never know when they will be shooting a huge movie near you, and need someone just like you to play a part. Even if there are no auditions for big movies, look for auditions for short films or commercials. People in Indiana have to watch tv too! Yes, acting takes a lot of talent and a lot of luck, but as for talent, it sounds like you have a huge amount of it. And as for luck, make your own. Potential is a huge part of acting too. Not everyone is amazing at acting, and you dont have to be to get a job. Agents, talent scouts, and casting agents can spot potential all the way from Hollywood to Indiana. Have determination, and you will soon be succeeding in the craft you love.
I wish you the best of luck!

One quality an actor must have is courage. Get over your shyness and tryout for the school plays. There is no quick and easy way to become an actor. It is a very long, very hard road. One has to be completely devoted to acting to succeed.

there are many parts to a play that can do...you start out with a small part, that will help you get over being shy and you'll still sing and act...even if its in a group(which is even better).
if you love to act don't stop or give up cause you never know you may become famous. you just have to keep working hard and be determined. with hard work and practice you can get over being shy and maybe be famous one day.

When you audition, just pretend no one is there, picture them in their underwears or something. Experience is good it will help you overcome your fear, i fear of being in front of an audience and public but once you get used to it, it wont be so bad. I would suggest you start out as being an extra sometimes with no lines and sometimes with lines. Just get as much experience as you can! hope i helped:D
