Why do you believe people are racist? I see no need why one race should be held in higher esteem over another; all of us are all humans and none of us should be ranked higher than the other because of the colour of our skin or our racial backgrounds. What do you think?

Blacks are physically superior. That tends to irritate me.

Upbringing and bad experiences, although there's a lot of situations where racism begets racism. That last one is very common in the business world, because underneath, it's just envy; there are a lot of businesses that either try to duck the race card by hiring and promoting only people they consider minorities, or just hire low-cost immigrants because it's easier to pay their salary than it is to pay a union worker's salary.

People need jobs to live, and get ugly when they can't get jobs, especially when the reason is as dumb as an employer being racist. Since someone who got turned down for a job, fired, or outsourced is already looking for something or someone to blame, and the place they were trying to work really did only hire or promote minorities, they become just as racist as the employer was, sometimes even more so.

Every person of every race has to figure out how to make ends meet in a hard world. Some people just find ugly ways to do it.

Racism exists because it is natural for human to want to feel superior. Racism exists even more because people want to protect their own culture and traditions; so if they feel threatened they push back.
Racism is usually determined by the "offended" people more so than by the person being accused. This is particularly true now in western countries obsessed with PC; if any criticism if offered towards another race's culture or traditions, you are immediately labeled "racist". Not true.

I agree
but the blacks think I owe them something
because their families sold their ancestors
to my ancestors who put them in the slave trade

the last I checked I had nothing to do w/ the slave trade
and I don't owe anybody a damn thing

MOST blacks haven't done a dame thing in their life
when I was 5 I was in the cornfields by the time I was 10 I was bailing hay,
12 The barn work by myself
13 Stacking wood for my families sawmill
16 I had a job and going to school

now who sounds like the slave
I'm 32 years old and I know more and have done more than most of the blacks in this country

and frankly I'm sick of it.

I just think people are racist because they think that all people of the same race act the same. Some always judge a book by it's cover. And some never know when it's somebody who you could end up being a friend.

Human nature is the base culprit. If anyone appears, acts, or sounds different then oneself, that person sticks out in the mind and if some problem occurs with a member of that race, the human mind categorizes them into a mold.

if you want my honest answer, it is people like jesse jackson, al sharpton, and everyone who has there "(insert race here) pride movement". the only reason we have racists is because people who claim to be doing good in the fight for equality, keep drawing lines between black, white, blue, green, and pink. there will be racists until the day that BET, affirmative action, MTV tres, Jerry Springer, and every other exclusive race ideas are eliminated. racism is ignorance. shows like the mind of mencia and chapelles show however, i think are helping to eliminate what most people call racism. these men show that the differences between men are jokes, and are things that can be laughed at, not used as tools of hatred.

but thats just my 2 cents

Hmmmm
I guess people are racist for different reasons. For example, some people may feel racist toward races of new imigrants because they feel that they are a threat.

People who are racist toward other groups get it from their families. It's passed down generation to generation. I agree with the person who said it is just ignorance.

Exstreme reacial prejudice usually starts as a child in the home.

Though the larger exstent prejudice exsists most everywhere because of the benefit of previous exsperience. Everyones memory and impressions are diffrent so and thus everyone uses thier past and a judge on the present or the unknown.

its unavoidable everyone is prejudice and thus racist.

The ****** gene.

No seriously, I think the beginnings of racism can't be fully understood. It is more about culture clashes than racism persay. Most cultures are divided by a border - be it politics, religion, morals, etc. Most large cultures are divided largely by color or differences in features. Not always of course - but you take the cultures differences - and the distant between people are so large the farther away you get...... Damn it I can't explain it.

Racism comes in many forms. It is not only an issue of race or color. Basically, it is a man's need to be more superior or to feel superior than the rest. It is the basic requirement for survival. Losers don't evolve.
