I act, and I think that acting classes are the best way to start. They give you some training, and some stuff to put on your resume. ooh that reminds me! If you are really serious about getting into the buisness, get your headshot and resume done. headshots can cost a lot, but they dont have to be perfect. Then, try out some open auditions! Learn some monologues, and start acting!
Best of luck!

Visit your local community theatre group, and test the waters- see if acting is really for you. Then, check out your nearest agency, and make sure it is a legit one. An agency may not seem like a good idea, but it is. They can help you build your resume by telling you where to go, what to do, and how to act. They guide you as far as basic training for acting goes. They tell you what to do in front of the camera, etc. They also may hold several workshops or training sessions themselves, and that will go on your resume.
Agencies can be very pricy so make sure acting is your passion, not just a hobby. Don't get into it because you want to be a big movie star. I don't want to crush your dreams, but not that many people make it to the big screen,
Do it because you love it. Not for money, and you will be set for life!!

Take acting classes. There are Drama Schools to which you could apply. Or, if you are nervy just go on interviews for jobs and maybe you will be the lucky one as only 15% of actors (according to SAG) get steady work.

your last two answer are pretty good. It takes a very long time and is very hard work. You have to be completely devoted to it. And you need a mentor.
