I'm using window's movie maker (so all the out of town aunt, uncles, grandma and grandpas can view his summer camp photos) and I'm trying to pick a song to go along with his photos. Looking for ANY kind of song with down-home-country-american-theme. He's 12 and he went to a camp for the visually impaired/blind. (he had a great time and can't wait to go back) The only song I have so far is Bon Jovi's "Who say's you can't go home". Someone also suggested "teach your children" by crosby still and Nash. I love both the songs, but I want to entertain other ideas, too. I don't normally listen to country-I know there are some great all american country songs that would be great for my theme-I just don't know any. Thanks a bunch for any suggestion.
BTW. His camp was back in the california mountains

Hi there, I cant come up with a full applicable song, but if you are looking for clips from songs, then check these out.

The first one is the main title sequence song on George Straits Heartland (on the soundtrack for the movie PURE COUNTRY). This song starts out with a little boy singing the popular hit Heartland, but later George Strait takes over and finishes. This main title sequence leads into the more widely known hit Heartland. Anyway, you could do a lot with this. Edit out the young boy and get to the part where it sings about Mother Nature walking along with you.
It is a very short segment so you could put this at the beginning where you might have titles or get the subject going. (Naturally you can check out the song Heartland but I dont think it applies here.)

Last but not least, check out the song "The Best Day" by George Straight as well. It is a song about camping but it is relationship specific, a boy camping with his father, and later grows in life and marries. The beginning of this song is about loading a station wagon with a cooler of cokes, a coleman and a sleeping bag etc.

If I think of any full songs, I'll edit this post. Cheers.

PS It wouldnt hurt to ask the folks over at SongFacts.com for help. Good Luck!

If it doesn't absolutely have to be country, there is a song called Camp Grenada (about summer camp). I don't know who sings it, but it should be able to be located with an online search. Note: make certian you get the original song, there is a parody of this song that is a wee bit on the bawdy side!

I just noticed, the guy right above me has this same song mentioned, but under a different title; (it's the one by Alan Shermon).

It's not country and it's not American but U2's beautiful day is a great song for slideshows, it's beat is right on for the correct transition and it brings out real emotion in a subtle background sort of way...
