Not necessarily.
Personally, I think alcohol is more of a gateway....people tend to do stupid things when they're drunk.

My own personal experience from attending meetings in a local drug rehabilitation center would indicate to me that marijuana is definitely a gateway drug. Without exception, every single person undergoing treatment for various drug use stated that their first experience with illicit drugs was smoking marijuana. In all fairness to this conclusion, they also stated that they also drank alcohol. Perhaps alcohol could be determined to be a gateway drug to marijuana?
It only seems reasonable to me that if a person is hell bent on getting a buzz, the drugs that are present or readily available will become the drugs that are abused.
Incidentally, I seriously doubt that mother's milk leads to heroin addition - unless the mother is using.

Of course it is. Not physiologically but it puts one in the drug culture and gives access to other recreational drugs. You hang around with dopers and when someone wants to do a couple of lines, you think, "Sure." And off you go.

Yes and No...
It IS a gateway drug due to the illegal environment it is sold in. While buying from a dealer that person is also marketing harder substances.
The drug itself, as with cigarettes, does not provoke people to seek harder substances such as crack and meth.

They say it is because almost all hard drug users start with mj, as you say most started with milk or pepsi. I used mj for 30 yrs, and never used anything else, it's all what you do with it.

No, weed is not a "gateway drug". A pot high is different from any other high.

well, the statistics say that if you do heroin, you probably started with marijuana, however, pretty much everyone i know smokes marijuana, and i don't know anyone that does heroin.
