I have a question about Hellraiser. I saw the film ages ago... I wanted to know how Cenobites are created? Were they just unlucky humans who stumbled upon the box thing and were transformed to serve Hell forever? Can anyone become a cenobite in that case? Can Cenobites be killed? I'm not sure if they're already dead or not...

In Hellbound:Hellraiser 2, it is established that the Cenobites were indead humans that the god of Hell (called Leviathan) captured, and turned into the denizens and caretakers of Hell. A demented surgeon in this film desperatly wants to become a cenobite, and then turns on the others, and kills them. In Hellraiser 3:Hell On Earth, Pinhead's human and cenobite selves are seperated, and the cenobite escapes and comes to earth. Only when they are reunited is Pinhead sent back to the realm of hell.

Cenobites are either demons who're bound to the puzzle-box, or created from humans who had solved the box and became members of that illustrious group.

It's been shown that they *can* be killed... and new ones can be created.
