Are there protections against buying tickets for a concert early and then selling them later on ? I see tickets for sale online at up to $5000.

Many states have laws against 'scalping'. If one of these applies, you can't legally sell the tickets for more than face value. In some cases, licensed ticket brokers are exempt from scalping laws. The state where the concert will occur, and possible your state, must be known to give a complete answer.
