What programs should I add to my new computer?

I am a full time mom and housewife as of recent and would like to find a way to make money from home.. I am getting a new computer and would like to know what programs to put on it, my options are nearly endless. I plan to use my computer for a home office and hopefully work from home. Please if anyone can help, its greatly appreciated.
