Swimming uses a HELL of a lot more energy than you'd think. I read on a Gatorade bottle that for every half hour that you swim, you sweat off about a cup of perspiration! Gross, huh? That's why you should always have a drink with you when you swim. I know exactly how you feel...I swim for 2 and a half hours almost every day in the summer and about and hour and a half for 5 days in the winter for my school, and that DRAINS YOU OUT!!! (No pun intended, lol.)

It's a great calorie burning workout and it's fun. I used to compete when I was younger. The coach would give us packages of Jello... we'd just eat the sugary powder. It would give us energy for the meet. Afterward, we'd all be so hungry. One of the girls would bring Twinkies and Ding Dongs for us to share.

The expenditure of energy is enormous, more so than even fast walking or a long hike, but it doesn't wear you out like calesthenics or running so you just get out of the pool and make for the fridge. Thatr's what I do.

b.c. swimming burns 2x the amount of calories than walking or running. when you swim you are getting a lot more resistance that you would get when you are running. You are hungry b/c you body is trying to replenish its calorie supply.

I think it is because the kids pee in the pool and that makes you hungry once you have drank the water.
