A little more information would be needed to give a real answer. "Porsche" covers more than 50 years of cars with a wide range of models... and even BMW 3 series covers quite a range of years and models.
However, very few of either possible selection here would be ideally suited as a car for a college student. Both are reliable and usable cars, but ones better suited to post college when you can keep more than one car: I've had both Porsches and BMWs in the past (a couple 3 series), and neither were my only car.
Since I don't know the specific models you are actually considering, the plus on the Porsche side is a generalization... they are sports cars. BMW, while offering performance, is more of a sporty car.
But back to the original question... with the lack of specifics, the BMW would probably be the more practical choice between these two. And the fact that you are asking probably means that many of the thing Porsche enthusiasts love about Porsches are not on your priority list (if they were, you would have already decided on the Porsche). Any of the BMW 3 series cars are good, fun, and would make a great car to own... and probably the better choice in this case.
Might have a different suggestion given more information... but as it is, that's it.

See if your dad has some really deep pockets, go for then go for porsche carrera gt. Without a doubt porsche is way better than BMW in the fields of both design and technology. If u like SUVs then porsche cayenne Turbo S is a powerful one but not a beautiful one. and in others there Porsche Cayman S.
If your heart beats BMW. then don't worry cause u can go for M5, Z4 or 650i. In the SUVs segment i would rather suggest u to go foe a X5 3.0 or X5 4.8

Check it out Ace, I own a Porsche 911 and I have owned a Bimmer. The Bimmer was more comfortable and quite reliable, but they have become more and more popular. So as I would see them all over the place I didn't feel so special about my purchase, and found myself buying more and more add-ons just to feel a sense of uniqueness.
My 911 takes a little effort getting in and out after a while, so not as comfortable. Reliability is as good as the Bimmer. But what sets it apart from the Bimmer is its history and I didn't feel that urge to buy add-ons. I can honestly tell you that I always get compliments no matter if it is shiny or dirty. Not to mention the attention it draws from all the "Babes". So I have stuck to my Porsche because it is an automotive ICON. And I did buy me an old Ford Ranger to do the "all other stuff".

What kind of porsche? 911 is the way to go... Dont get boxter, it is a piece of crap. However, I love the new BMW 335! Both cars are going to get you equal amount of girls, but for sheer power and handling Carrera is better. I personally love the new M5. If you can afford it, get an M series BMW.

it depends. but for me i would rather get a porsche. i dont lik bmw... but having a coupe in college really sucks. i would go with an suv or atleast a sedan. i know ppl wanna look cool and all. but i had a coupe not a porsche but 2 seaters. anyways lot of complications. but i guess since you have money you could probably easily get movers to move stuff. but honestly. i rather get an nsx than a porsche. gl on your buy

Geo Metro and one years tuition would be equivalent of either.
BMW vs Porsche is an age old question defined by what you need or expect from a vehicle. This is a very personal choice and will be based on your character not mine.

Porche Prices range from 55k-150k. It depends on what you want to drive. They come all wheel drive/rear wheel drive/ and front wheel drive. Usually 3.5-4.0 Liters engine. Manual and automatic. They do look nicer than Beemers so i would reccomend if you have this kind of money. A BMW ranges like 40k-70k and its kinds bigger so i assume it will have worst gas mileage than the porche. With the porche u can get more chicks at college. Suit yourself
