I don't take them out. But just make sure that you rinse them afterward and wipe out the entire inside of the oven. Sometimes there will be little charred remnants of things in the bottom of the oven that will start to smoke if you don't remove them.

Yes, I do because if you don't, they get discolored. For spot oven cleaning, I use Easy Off oven cleaner. It's made to use in self cleaning ovens, is fume free, lemon scented, & works great, especially on the oven racks. Look for it in the grocery store. It's in a blue can.

I don't take them out either. But I do take out the foil that I always place on the bottom. Foil is really a quick cleanup for spillage and I don' t have to use the self clean as often, besides you're using more electricity to self clean so with the use of foil it may save you money in the long run.

Yes, you must and your oven book tells you to do so. They will turn color if you don't. If they need extra attention it's easy to use a spray oven cleaner on them and clean them.
