I have a 00 avalon whic I just bought a month aga I had a limited 30 guarantee but it just expired a few days ago. the car is running the same as when i bought it nothing has changed and the check engine light just came on any suggestions on what can possible be it has 128k miles? please help. I am not a very mechanichaly inclined person and dont want to be taken advantage when i take it to the shop id like to have some kind of direction. thanks

There are many different things that could cause a check engine light to come on the most common though on late model vehicles is the gas cap check that first if its tight then i would go to a auto repair shop that is recommended by friends or family

You'll save a lot of aggravation and money if you just fork over $50 for an OBDII scanner. You'll be able to read and clear the codes on any vehicle made since 1997. Impress your friends by diagnosing their cars. You pretty much just plug the thing in, turn the key on and push the read button.
