I just installed a new (brand new) Hard Drive in to my laptop and then I shut it down and inserted my copy of Windows XP and it ran for almost two hours and then my laptop restarted itself but it said that it can't find an Operating System.

I'm sure I'm missing something simple like changing something in the BIOS, but I just dont know exacrly wht I need to change and where.

This may not be the problem, but did you do any sort of partitioning before installing Windows? A phrase that comes to mind is "Set Partition As Bootable" but I don't use partitioning software very often.

If you boot from CD again, you may have the option of repairing the installation if you decide it's necessary. Other issues that may matter, though, are things like whether the computer is looking for a FAT 32 partition or an NTFS partition.

There are some programs that may be worth browsing at

but the first name that comes to mind when I hear "partition" is Partition Magic.

However, a boot disk/disc may look for Partition Magic on the hard drive before offering to help; I'm not sure.

Also, when I bought a Western Digital hard drive a few years ago, there was a helpful diskette included, so consider checking the website of the company that manufactured the drive to see if helpful downloads are available there.

Good luck.
