I do not think there can ever be world peace. It is not just mans desire to own every thing in existence; it can also be seen even in the animal kingdom. If you eliminate man then by the sheer nature of the survival of the fitest will lead to another animal taking our place. They would then protect their small piece of land, which in turn leads to the desire to increase what they already have to accomodate their rising number of offspring (after all as the top of the food chain man does keep the numbers of animals down).

You may argue that in the great scheme of life that it is only in relatively recent years that man has actually 'owned' land or that animals roam free. My answers to the first is that before we fought over land we would fight over where to hunt, which areas to gather fruits and crops and over who should be with who. Animals already mark their territory and even kill those who may accidentally stray into their area; regardless of gender or age, sound familar doesn't it.

Taking these into consideration I don't think it is possible to ever consider world peace. However, that doesnt mean we can't try and live with each other as well as everything else that shares this little plant with us.

Finally, I'm not sure that world peace would be all that great. It is adversity that makes some of us strive to achieve such advancements as human rights legislation, medical facilities and knowledge.

It would be a start if all people realised that everyone has a right to live and believe in what we want. All these fights and wars about one thing or another is not necessary. As us adults have sure messed up this world i hope the next generation can make the world a better place. There is a program mini-series coming on tv soon called Kid Nation maybe we can all learn from that show.

The answer everyone would like to hear is "yes"! however you can only have world peace when in fact mankind is at peace with his/herself.... which raises the question if we were to create world peace how would we do it?? That is what you have asked. First we would have to start over and stop being so materialistic that is our greatest downfall and money. I disagree with the religion part, I believe every person should have the entitlement of believing in a religion the Buddhists and pagans can do this without much thought because theirs is a pure faith of mother earth and does not consist of a place of worship necessarily. It is s/he who chooses to change the path and rule that causes the downfall, therefore it is the preacher not the religion that causes such shambles.
Mankind is its own enemy for those who have to fight are unhappy with them-self. Look at our society it is chaos and disorganised mayhem!! We start of as a baby a pure sole and then become brain washed with other peoples idioms

We make world peace by making peace in our own small world. Show a little kindness to your neighbor. Smile at the person on the street. Stick up for that person at work. If you can spread peace to those who are in your life maybe it will just keep spreading. One person cannot change the whole world but maybe we can get the ball rolling.

Create peace within yourself. That has a more powerful influence than you might imagine.

Yoga is a good starting point. To take a deeper look this online resource will talk about how to do this on an even more powerful level.

Until the peoples of the world learn to look at our similarities instead of our differences we will not experience peace.

Differences create envy, prejudice, hate. Similarities create friendship, unity and unconditional regard between people.

I was going to mention something similar to illuminatiness' answer. My answer is: watch all the beauty pageants, and you will notice whenever a contestant is asked ''what do you wish for the world?'' and they always answer ''world peace''.. I joke with my family by saying, "They always say that...wouldn't it be funny if one of them accidentally said, 'world war 3'. I REPEAT - THIS IS ONLY A JOKE THAT I SAY. I don't believe in war.

Personally, I think the fastest way to make world peace on this planet would be to eliminate ALL the people, and give it back to the animals; failing that, though, I don't have an answer for this one.

Be willing to learn and challenge knowledge about ourselves, this sounds very personal but if somebody is going to be critical about world peace, personality matters.

we could try Islam and just kill everyone! (including ourselves of course)
the world would be a peaceful place without people after all.
