sounds like a pretty good deal if it only has that many miles on it, I would be there when the mechanic gets it running and tell him you want to see a compression test on it. The 3.1 is known for blowing intake gaskets as thats the only knock on the engine, hopefully you will get a lot of miles out of it and it should run good for you.

You can't tell, there is no way to know, But I can tell you most every salvage yard will lie about the mileage to sell the engine. It may not have but 45k but 37k sounds better. All in all though, 800 bucks is a good price on that engine even if it had 50k, it will last a long time.

You're pretty much throwing the dice when you buy a used engine. About all they can do to check it out is a compression check, and that doesn't tell you that much about it's condition. Try pricing an Autozone rebuilt engine if you don't want to shell out for a first class job like a Jasper.

previous 2 answers are both dead on....w/o personally seeing the car the engine came from everyone is taking the salvage yards word on it. if you are concerned then buy a reman at 3x the cost.
