the correct answer is 'yes'
We commonly say that the north end of the compass needle points North. However, the compass needle (like any other magnet including the Earth) has two poles. The North end of the needle is attracted towards the direction we call north (Earth's 'north' magnetic pole is a south pole) and the South end of the compass needle is attracted towards the south.
Both attract the needle equally and the needle responds by lining up with the lines of magnetic field.
In Australia, the south end of the compass is attracted towards the South, so that the North end of the compass still 'points' north.

In the southern hemisphere, the compass will be most influenced by the South Magnetic Pole. However, the compass will still point in the same directions (north and south) as it did in the northern hemisphere, because it will be the opposite end of it that will be attracted to the south magnetic pole.

If the Compass is at the equator it will point to magnetic north,
No matter where the compass is located it will point north.

Hi. A compass always aligns with the magnetic field, so north ( and south for the other end of the needle). Magnetic, not actual, of course.

Yes. If you were standing on the south magnetic pole (not the geographic south pole) your compass may not work. If the mag field were simple the needle would point strait UP, but the mag field is complex and dynamic.

If you are looking for a strange reaction, go to the magnetic north and try to read your compass!

if your compass is not magnetically set to point south on the south pointer then the north pointer will wobble around not pointing directly north. just magnetize a needle on the south pole of the magnet and you will see it does not point directly south.
