You are missing the drivers.. Use the install CD.

If your device is kinda an off the wall brand...or just not that mainstream, then Windows might not recognize it as it only has the most common used drivers in it's system.
Most stuff you buy at the store comes with a drivers disk...you should install these drivers before you hook up the device; unless the directions say otherwise.
If you don't have a drivers disk, or you got the device second hand, then try the manafactuers website to download the drivers....

What USB device you plug in? It may need to intstall driver before plug in for the first time.
