sounds like termites. But it could also be ants. Ants spread by releasing potential queens(they have wings). They fly off from the original ant colony to settle and start new colonies. It's usually many of them flying around when this happens. But it doesn't last more than a few days i think.

Oh crap!! I think I had the same problem one time, except they were INSIDE my house, all on one wall!!! I just used bug spray and evacuated for three or four days...
Call an exterminator and keep the kids in the house or get the heck out..... I believe those are termites... and whatever they are, they do bite and when I had them at my old place, many many years ago, there were what seemed like millions of them... I was terrified just like you!!!
Call an exterminator and if you can't afford to have one come out, at least ask them what they look like.... and ask them what they think they are...
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!! (just kidding but stay away from em')
Check out this site, tell me if they look like these, if not it's something else.... but this site tells you what to look for...
Also, I hope to God they are not fire ants like they have in Texas... those have a painful sting/bite.... I would google fire ants if the termite site doesn't help....
Good luck.... **shudders**

OMG, I'm scared for you, the only bugs we have that fly in the garden like that are plain old ants that get wings, a few kettles of boiling water and they are gon, can't you look for a local exterminator and ring them for advice, find out what they are and go from there.....
Good Luck, let me know how you get on :o(

Call an exterminator. See if you have a company like Bug-A-Boo, they are really good, got rid of our ant and earwigs (probably not how you spell that), anyway that's what you need to do.

Call your local pest control and see what they offer.
If that doesn't work burn the house and salt the earth, that will take care of those little buggers!
But seriously, call a pest control service.

I'd be on the phone with the exterminator like yesterday.
Is this them? If so call that exterminator cause they can do damage.
