Any animal that is kept as a pet can show affection just like dogs and cats can. Several years ago, I had a lizard that I rescued when it was just a baby - just one of those typical lizards that one would find outside - and it grew up to be one of the sweetest tempered pets that I ever had.
Keep in mind however, that a reptile's way of showing affection is different than a cat's or a dog's way of doing the same thing.

No, not like a dog or a cat. They don't become attached to their owners for any reason other than the old 'they bring food so they = good'.
They can become used to humans, and associate them with good things such as shelter, food, etc, but they don't think of us as friends. It's sad, but true :(.

not like a dog or cat but they do show a bit of emotion i think. mine always seems happy when i go to take him out and he gets excited about food (obviously) but other 'pet like' emotions such as affection, no.

not really if you want affection get a hamster their cool and you can teach them tricks (really) snakes are timid and shy animals their actions are usually only instant but i could be wrong i have had lizards before they are cool but a hamster is interesting and you can play with it and teach it stuff
