Soho (sun observing satellite) would 'see' whatever happened and give an advanced warning (at least from the mass-particle stream) -- maybe enough time for the Soho operating engineers to call their loved ones and say goodbye.

I assume you mean the sun just disappearing. Aside from the lack of light the earth (and all the other planets and whatnot that orbit the sun) would suddenly start flying off in straight lines into deep space. If the sun were to actually explode it would get many thousands of times brighter than it is now and the earth would simply cease to exist.

No way anyone would know until the sun suddenly exploded in our sky about 8 minutes later.

you wouldn't. But the sun isn't going to explode, in the usual sense of the word.

A person wouldn't know, of course, untill after 8 minutes. Then, a second after that, we'd all burn to crisp in a split second, and all this would be meaningless.... ;)
