Something is wrong with the pulley in my car, it needs to be replaced and the part is not readily available. It's squealing really bad and it makes me nervous driving it like this. Basically, I want to know if it's safe to drive this thing while I'm waiting on the part, and what can go wrong, and what I should look out for.

The belts have been replaced twice in the past week, it's not the belts. It's still under warranty so no one's milking me for extra bucks. I'm also hoping that the mechanic wouldn't have told me to drive it if it was about to completely fall apart. And I really don't know what pulley it is, just that it's a pulley. Hopefully this gives some more info. Thanks for all the answers :)

The risk is that it will break, your water pump will quit and you'll burn up the engine.

You may do well to find another mode of transportation... If the pulley is squealing, that is a sign that it is no longer lubricated properly. Be sure to check that it isn't the belt squealing and you being taken for a ride by the auto shop.

Things that can go wrong.... catastrophic engine failure resulting in the engine seizing and not working ever again. My best advice is to use your best judgment and common sense in operating the vehicle. Hope this helps, good luck and be safe.

with the pulley sqeaking, that is a good sign not to drive your car. happen to me once but it was more the pulley bolt that came loose. you can break your timing belt, which in turn can damage your water pump, oil pump, cam sprockets, and maybe even damage inside the engine. the pulley spins really fast and normal driving to work and back is enough to cause the damage. I recommend you take public transportation or find other means to get around

If any of the pullies are about to fall off the car IS NOT safe to drive. The pulley will come flying off and destroy a lot of stuff in the process.
