I love the Bumbo. But to answer your question, I find the best thing to help an infant to learn to sit up is you. Just sit on the floor with your baby from time to time, spread your legs out, and have him/her sit up facing away from you. This way you have control over the baby's sudden movements so he doesn't flop down, and baby can play with his/her toys and still feel the security of mom being near. PLUS recent studdies show that infants' mental development is enhanced by floortime with mom and/or dad :)
The boppy pillow is great, but I find that more often than not, it tilts baby one way or the other and actually prevents them from sitting upright.

You don't need a Bumbo. It was recently listed as the #1 baby item you don't need.
When a baby is getting close to being able to sit, put an interesting toy in front of him or her, to encourage leaning forward and balance. Put a pillow behind.

I have been looking for the same kind of thing.. the Bebe pod, yeah.. those don't work. lol. I'll check back at your answers to see what everyone else says.. :) I've tried to sit my 6 month old up and just let him sit there, he will for about 30-40 seconds and then.. he'll flop over. lol.. so, I don't know what methods are the best.. I have tried a pillow... and someone needs to explain that method, exactally how that one works.. lol.. I have no idea. Good luck to ya, honey!

I got this bolster seat as a shower present, and I actually find it works really well. I like it alot better than a bumbo. It is a little bigger and sturdier than a boppy, and makes them work their back muscles. It helped my daughter to sit on her own. I now use it for her (even though she can sit unassisted for a little while) to help keep her balance and the toys that attach keep her interested. Hope it helps!

You really don't need any 'item' to help your child sit up. Prop him/her up in the corner of the couch (with you right there of course) with pillows around her/him. Concentrate on 'tummy time' too, that will help your child to build the proper muscles for crawling and sitting up.

Babies need to learn to sit up on their own. It doesn't do any good to have them sit up on their own unless they are able to get to the position by themselves. They will learn in their own time. I think these seats are just one more thing that will impede a baby's development.

Time
That bumbo chair was dumb. It was funny to see him in it...but it didn't teach him anything and it was a total waste of money...
Your baby will sit up when he has the required muscle development to do it...and no sooner.
If you want to prop him with pillow you can...but he's not really sitting up...he's ...propped up with pillows.
He will develop the right muscles and strength...with time.

it sounds weird but tummy time is great for sitting up because it strengthens the back and neck muscles... i like the boppy pillow(softens the inevitable fall) and my friend loved the bumpo seat for her daughter
