A few times.
The U-Haul we were driving (not recommended!) broke down out in the middle of nowhere in 15 below zero weather. A trucker picked us up and made two trips to the nearest truck stop, to drop the three of us off to call for help.
Our oldest child (then 3 years old) got her finger caught in a folding door at our church. The tip of her finger was broken and required 3 stitches. The church's insurance paid for it all, but an anonymous person left an envelope for us with $100 in it and a note explaining that they knew how hard it was for a young (HA HA I'm almost 40. we just started late) couple to make ends meet with emergencies like that.
Another time, many years ago. I was in my Army uniform, getting gas and breakfast. A man came up at the counter and paid for my stuff and thanked me for my service to our country. Amazing. I felt so good that day, not even a nasty sgt. could bring me down.
I was very thankful for all of these people.

Today in the grocery store, I was Sweetheart'd, Darling'd, and Sweeite'd all they way through by strange men. I must have had a particularly sappy look on my face or something...who knows?! The big smiles and the terms of endearment were quite nice though! Makes a girl feel kinda good.

A guy down the street from me who I don't know stopped and asked how many kids I had in my house, I told him 8 and he brought back 8 happy meals plus some big mac meals for the adults. I was stunned, shocked but very appreciative.

yes. last Christmas an older couple came to my house with bagfuls of presents for all 7 kids in my family. not dollar store presents but actually really nice ones. like clothes, dvd players, cds, toys, things from bath and body works. they did it for us since they knew we had a child in our family who commit suicide and they apparently had a son who did too. they got our names through my younger siblings school. we were told it was because they miss being able to buy things for their son and they know how me must have been feeling. im actually wearing a pair of pj pants right now that they gave me. they never even met us but they spent all that money on us then the husband dressed up as Santa and my baby siblings got to sit on his lap and take pictures. it was really nice. very nice people. people have always given my family things since my brother death but nothing like that. those people spent probably over a thousand dollars on a family they have never met. they even had gifts for my mom. felt weird taking from them though.

yes... The lady who sees you only have one thing and let's you ditch her with your unhappy child in line at the market. Or how about the kind soul who sees you desperately trying to get over in rush hour traffic and helps you so you don't have to go six blocks out of your way to turn around. Little kindnesses go a long way. =-)
