I have a very narrow mouth so my wisdom teeth were really packed. I was having one pulled and the dentist kept yanking and yanking. He was pretty rough. All of a sudden I heard him use an expletive, and I really got worried. Seems the tooth cracked from the pressure so a lot was still left in the socket. He worked and worked to get it out. It was painful. I decided not to go back to him again. When I had another wisdom tooth pulled by another dentist, he simply gave a gentle twist with his tool, and presto, the tooth was out without pain.

One time I was having a root canal and the Novocaine, had started to wear off. The dentist said he was almost through,
and could he do the rest without more Novocaine. I said yes,
but it took him longer than expected, and I felt all the pain.
Another time I was having one of those Pink Bubble Gum (that what I call them) molds done. And after it had set the dentist tried and tried, but it would not come out. I had almost everyone in the dentist office trying to dislodge that mold from my mouth. Tugging and pulling away.. I thought I would have that mold in my mouth forever. It was not fun. Obviously it came out eventually,

I have a very low threshold for pain and must be put under for a tooth pulling.
Well, this know-it-all j a c k a s s keeps telling me that he has needles that will do the job. I kept telling him that it was not going to work and he insisted that he would give me gas and it would be fine. I like a fool, believed him.
Well I screamed so loudly in his very posh Park Avenue, south office that his receptionist closed all of the doors leading to his torture chamber. My roots are long and strong and boy did he work for that tooth. The medicine kicked in when it was all over and I was asleep in his little sleep off the drugs room, for a little while and he woke me up with a loud voice.
I never went back and I guess he was glad.

I was 5 years old...1954.....first time at the dentist. I had to sit on my mothers lap, with her holding me forcibly in place. Suddenly, the dentist slapped an ether mask over my face and I was suffocating from the fumes.....total panic....finally passed out. Woke up with a mouth full of blood from the teeth he'd (needlessly) pulled out.
Yep....those were the days !!!
Needless to say, I still have a phobia about dentists, and only go there if the pain of the tooth is greater than the fear of the dentist !

I have a very low thresthold to tooth pain so the last time I went to the dentist is over 10 years ago. I shutter at the thought now while they drilled on my sensitive teeth. They gave me two shots of novacane and I was still in terrible pain. I couldn't eat using the teeth he drilled on for weeks. I think I would die now than go back to a dentist.

Any dentist who wants to see me would have to put me to sleep first! I wonder how much that would cost?

I love my dentist, and apparently I used to go out with him, a long time ago.

Unfortunately because of the blow on my head, I have no memory of this. Thank God you have all the stuff in your mouth because the whole time he is working he is talking about "do you remember when we did this?" "Do you remember that time we --?" eeeekkk I just nod my head and stare at his gorgeous curly hair and think "dang I should remember him". LOL What on earth would have EVER made me break up with him?

My favourite was when his assistant told him he was being slow and he winked at me and say "__ knows I do all my best work slow" LMAO I almost choked ! Oh WHY cant I remember? I apparently have an interesting history I have no idea of --- damn. I wouldnt mind taking a little trip down memory lane .. sad to be missing what apparently are some good ones. (sigh)

I am really NOT making this stuff up. LOL Life is interesting after an accident like mine.

BUT the reason I love him is I love all my "support team" who work at keeping me looking as good as possible - the fact that I cant feel acute pain anymore helps too :-) and he gives me good deals.

My wisdom teeth have never put in an appearance. Lucky me.

While in Thailand in the service, I was able to see the forearm and hand muscles strain and flex while an Army dentist pulled an infected 4 root molar out of me. The infection prevented the novacaine from working, the pain was tremendous and my jaw ached for a week. I didn't visit a dentist again until years later as a civilian and was happy to see they had changed techniques, breaking the teeth into pieces before taking the bits out.

My Achilles heel is my teeth. It seems to be genetic, as some of my kids also have extreme problems with their teeth. As a child in the 1950's, my dentist didn't believe in Novocaine for drilling cavities unless they were 'large'. In my twenties, I had impacted wisdom teeth that had to removed by a periodontal teacher from a dental school. He kept saying, " I wish my class was here, this is a one in a million case!". Great. When I get Novocaine, it doesn't hit me for about an hour. So I end up with numerous shots that barely work, and then when I get home, my mouth is numb for about five hours!!!

When I had caps put on, It wasn't the pain, it was the dentists chair side manner. I had heard he was the best for caps, went and saw some before and after pictures, and decided to go for it. At that visit he was nice, polite, etc,.....just wanted the dough. While he was putting them on he was yelling, bite down, then NO, not like that, what's wrong with you, etc. Needless to say I never went back, not even for the follow up, I found a better one. And the other dentist was as disappointed as I was in the results. Can you believe he left a small gap between my front teeth. I want to get them redone, but can't afford it!

My worst experience was when I changed dentist .
The new one had an office close to me which I thought was a good thing. Well, this guy was so rough on my mouth, yanking and pulling that it caused the corners of my mouth to bleed. I told his nurse that I would never come back and why. She seemed like it was no big deal. No apology. Needless to say I never went back.

When I was still working, I used to go to the dentist regularly to get work done on my teeth. I ended up getting 4 root canals and caps during this time.

But my dentist used to love me, because once my mouth was frozen and the rubber catcher stretched across my open mouth, I used to fall right off to sleep....slept through the whole of every one of the procedures--drilling the nerve, filling the tooth, fitting and cementing of the cap into place.

By the time he did the last of the caps, he thanked me for being such a good patient--my sleeping allowed him to relax through the whole procedure and left him feeling restored for the rest of his day.
