Well you do need a modem, which can be built into the router but before anyone can really answer you WHAT do you plan to connect into, DSL, Cable, FIOS, etc.

A router won't work by itself it does need to connect to something somewhere on the Wide Area / Internet side and we need to know what you plan to use to do that before anyone can tell you a router to get!

Whatever modem you get built into the router will have to match your broadband connection. If you want to wirelessly connect to some other system you need to check with the wireless provider to see what routers they recommend.

ADDED - Now that DSL is established.
There are several with Wireless G - All of the N models I have seen are not for use in the US Like the netgear
DG834NB with ADSL2 modem is not available in North America.. hopefully they will have one soon but not now.

The Dlink Wireless G unit
DSL-2640B is available around $80.00-$95.00

OR
Any of the 2Wire models

for comparison all are hyper G units.

I usually don't want to mix the modem and router so I usually avoid putting two things into one box.

First of all, I would not buy an N yet. It is not a final design. Aim at 802.11g. It is faster than your internet connection, and currently the most used and most stable.

Second of all, your service provider should provide you with the modem. I have no idea what service that you were thinking of connecting too. HEY, you aren't talking DIAL-UP are you. That would SUCK

Get this one:
LINKSYS WRT54G IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g Wireless-G Broadband Router - $49.99

I wouldn't buy the 2Wire. We've had a host of replacements for them. ATT uses them because they're cheap. DLink or Linksys. For $70, get the wireless G. Stay away from N for now. Not fully defined yet.
