The do exist!
But, they don't measure movement in that way. When we lie, our heart rate and pulse go up, and the machine calculates all of this, and measures the highs and lows and it determines at which point you are lying.
Usually, the person administering the test will ask you some questions, that don't require any thought(like your date of birth, name, and address and phone number), and take this measurement as your base heart and pulse rate. Then he'll ask you some tougher questions(have you ever stolen money from an employer) and such as this, and measure how your heart and pulse rate fluctuate. Then, he'll ask you some simple questions a third time. to prove the machine is working properly, like your parents name and how many siblings.
If you ever have to get one, it's pretty cool, and the results sheet looks kind of like an EKG.

Hi,
Yes, lie detectors (also known as polygraphs) are real. They are used by FBI, CIA, and other forms of law enforcement. However lie detectors have come under fire due to their reportedly low rate of accuracy.
The Washington Post explains that some scientists believe the high number of "false positives" has had a detrimental effect on careers. Additionally, the Federal Association of Scientists reports that there appears to be a "substantial error rate" among innocent subjects when tested
For those reasons, many argue that polygraph tests really aren't useful, though there are still many who believe they serve a purpose.

It is called a polygraph examination. It does not work on some people and often times the results are not accepted in a court of law. But they do exist and can be very helpful.
They do a "test" first. If they saw you were anxious even during questions such as; "how old are you?" "where do you live?" etc. the examiner would take that into consideration.

Yes. they test you beforehand to make sure it's accurate. like they make you like on purpose for facts already established. I saw that part in a movie, but it was cool.

it is not 100% and is easily tricked if you know how. they ask you simple questions at first to get an honesty baseline. ex: are you 14 years old? then with that they compare to the real questions
