OK, so I am doing an Eagle scout project I have dubbed "Project READenforcement" It's a project I designed to help the Mississippi Gulf coast. When hurricane katrina came in, it wiped out the schools. Well, the state departments uilt them new libraries and stocked them and such, but the classroom library sets were never replaced. Anyway, I am going to begin by collecting as many books as possible for K-12. I started by going to thrift stores, and they either donated them to me by the box or sold them for 50 cents apiece. Now, I need some more ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions on ways I could get massive amounts of books at once? And maybe how I could set up monetary donations? Thanks!!!!!

p.s.---If you would like to donate a book (or monetary donation) please contact me at mike@kiakima.net Thanks again!

God bless Eagle Scouts. Why don't you contact famous authors and put out the word that you would like to produce a book of stories about Katrina or other hurricanes and ask them to contribute a story. Absolute Write produced a book called Stories of Strength. You can contact them and see if perhaps they would like to produce a second edition. I am sure if you got through to some famous authors, they would happily contribute some work. You could use the proceeds to stock libraries. You can also contact publishers directly. Contact their young reader divisions and ask if they would donate books to your library. If you write to me at deni913@hotmail.com, I will see to it that you get a name at a large NY publisher where you can inquire. I will also make a donation to you. Eagle scouts rock!! Pax - C

Get permission to set up drop off sites where people can donate books .Maybe at the schools in your town .Or the library.would let you put a box to collect books. This is a great thing you are doing. If you could get someone to donate cookies you could trade a cookie for a book.Good Luck
