Edison was never the President of the United States, although he was probably the president of some company along the way. Thomas Jefferson, the Author of the Declaration of Independence, a major contributor to the Constitution and in particular, with James Madison, The Bill of Rights was our 3rd President, after Washington and Adams, before Madison, Monroe and J.Q. Adams. Died on July 4th, 1826, the same day as his nemesis and great friend John Adams whose last words were "Thomas Jefferson survives." Adams did not know that just hours earlier, Jefferson had passed away in Virginia.
