You can join different groups maybe try to get involved in Greek week ( if you want to join something like that). Go to the library. Check to see local hangouts that are throwing parities for the university.

This is an intelligent question and I'm glad you asked. It's very important not be a loner in college. You won't be successful if you are always alone. What you need to do is join a club, intramural sport, or any organization on campus that interests you. There is where you will meet people and form friendships. Don't be afraid to walk up to students in your dorm or dining hall and introduce yourself, either. Say, "hi, I'm John, and I'm from Boston." They should immediately tell you about themselves, too. That is a good way to get started.

Go to a party. Or try to meet people that live in your dorm. (if you live in a dorm) Some of my best Friends still are guys I met in my freshman dorm. We were Friends all through college. Also, join a professional organization (frat, sorority, business frat, etc.) you will meet the people that will become your greatest Friends.

Good luck and have fun. I Miss college and would do just about anything to relive those 7 years.

There's lots of ways

1) find a club or sport (even recreational), or other group that caters to your interests. The people there likely share that interest, and friendships form naturally...
2) Try and partner up with classmates to study
3) Whether you're in a dorm or near-campus housing - meet your neighbors. Have a party or a BBQ and invite people over.

If you live in the dorms, it's almost impossible not to make friends. On the flip side, it's almost as easy to make enemies as well...just because some people are just so damn annoying. Don't worry about it. You'll meet someone in the dorms or campus or class.
If by some chance you still have problems, join a Fraternity or a campus club.

Try and interact with people living near by like suitemates, housemates, roommates, etc. You'll be closer to them first. Join clubs you're interested in and attend their meetings and events. Go to campus activities, there's bound to be a lot, meet new people there, and have fun! Remember there's people out there who feel the same way you do and are looking for people to hang out with

I used to be mega shy and when I started college I didnt know anyone. But i just randomly started talking to people and just latched on - believe me you wont be the only person thinking this and other people will be trying to do the same thing.

Keep your head up and just talk to everyone - I do now and I have the bigged mouth on my work team. Remember Shy kids get nowt!

Pick the one person sitting alone anywhere...library, dining hall, etc. and ask if you can sit with them. Chances they too are having the same problem. However, don't mention this "problem" just be friendly and perhaps they will reciprocate.
