I want to know if broadband will ever be free at some point in the future. Interstellar Internet has been proposed and will be a huge advancement in the internet world.

Broadband is cheap, but here in the UK we are still using copper cabling and probably aren't going to move onto fibre optic cabling for quite some time. Heck i read somewhere that the UK have no need for it, which i believe is 110% incorrect.

Fibre optics has a huge potential, it can carry very very large amounts of information at a very fast speed. But is delicate and costly to create. (i've seen how they make it and believe me it even looks costly to make)

Well broadband speeds are increasing everyday and getting cheaper, other than paying for the wiring and having it installed will there ever be a free connection?

So far according to the last time i checked the highest broadband connection in the UK is around 14MB on regular home use. I'm currently using as 10MB connection which to me i find been slow...

c'mon mate. get real.

you can only have 'free' if its a government service and they raise your taxes to pay for it. even the bloomin' telly isn't free and that technology is over 50 years old now.

was this something your mates were putting over on you down at the pub?

I have 8 M and use many machines on it. The speed is very high. You must check out your connection, at 10 M it should be brilliant, although as far as I know, no ISP in this country offers 10M, they normally offer 8 or 24, and the companies offering 24 are actually offering this as a total bandwidth, which is shared by all users in the area, so you only get part of it.

you know what is annoying is that if you have wireless broadband you can get free broadband but thats stealing

as someone got charged and sentenced not sure how long long i think he is on remand.(he was sitting outside someones house)

i dont know what you wireless bb uses whether cabling or fibre optics but the bb companies can offer bb for free they just dont want to

i was shocked when a computeach lecturer came to my house and showed me how to get free broadband on a wireless connection even though i am on a secured wired bb

it is possible

what you could do is pair up with a couple of neighbours and share the cost of the broadband (£14.99 divided by 5 equals 2.99 each per month) now surely that is not stealing.

they do that in places like starbucks (not sure how it works)

plug and go???

i heard a while ago that the Irish government are going to provide it for free to the public but i dont know when!

i also heard that they (who "they" are i dont know) want to close the internet and start it up again because it wasn't originally designed to do what its doing now!, it was fist made just to see if you could send a random line of numbers and letters from one computer to another!
