Sweetness, and I am not even a Chicago fan. Deacon Jones may not have been the best defensive player ever, but he may have dominated the d line as much as anyone I personally ever saw.

During his 15 year career he was a three time MVP SB player, he wracked up a .713 winning percentage; third best in the Super Bowl era, and two-time NFL MVP who twice led the NFL in passer rating and was the fifth quarterback ever to throw for 40,000 yards. He retired with six Super Bowl records and a share of three others and five post-season records, including most touchdown passes (45) which by the way were 11 more than Favre who ranks #2.
Joe Montana, number16 of San Francisco 49ers is the best NFL player of all time. He led San Francisco to four SB Victories in only eight years.

Jim Brown, #32, Cleveland Browns.
Played with a team with no passing game, so the defense knew he would carry the ball and played with 11 men on front. Never missed a game and each season he played he made the Pro Bowl.
At 29, Brown retired on top with tons of records. His records were broken because the seasons were extended to 14 and then to 16 games and defenses started playing more spread with the development of the passing game. But nobody has beaten his 5.3 yards per carry...despite the defenses knew he would get the ball.

you extremely confirmed information that he became into extremely an incredible participant. however the perfect? probable as a lineman. however the perfect participant? no longer adequate. he's incredibly incredible with an excellent variety of accolades for the time of his profession however the subject remains his place. He became right into a lineman, an offensive lineman. however very useful and needed in an offense, his place did no longer precisely placed up numbers on the scoreboard. those categorized to be the perfect could the two be a quarterback, working lower back, or an excellent receiver. the factor is, human beings underestimate the magnitude of linemen with the variety of skills of bruce matthews posses. Offensive linemen like him don't get into talks like this. yet thank you for preserving a ultimate participant. anyhow my %. could be Jim Brown.

You can't really answer that because there are so many different positions and talents required for those.
How many people would say Ray Guy, but he singlehandedly won games for the Raiders with his punting? Where would the Patriots been in their Super Bowls without Adam Vinatieri?
There are defensive players who take away one entire side of the field like Deion Sanders, Lawrence Taylor, Howie Long, Reggie White or Junior Seau.
Quarterbacks alone there are too many to count who were significant contributors. Not to mention running backs like Barry Sanders and Jim Brown who kept their teams in games seemingly by themselves or receivers like Jerry Rice and Randy Moss who have the ability to change games (well in Moss' case, when he feels like it).
Of course the offense would have been nowhere without their O' line to protect them and blow open holes. Anthony Munoz, Jim Ott, Mike Webster to name a few.

There is no one person EVER being the greatest. There can probably a greatest at a particular position.
The best thing is to go to NFL.COM and look at the top 50 or top 100 players.
It would be easier to compile a list of the top three for each position.
