Apart from doing the hard yards of research and having a sound medical practice to work in, i would think that being considerate of how someone feels when bringing in an injured pet would be good. eg most people who have close pets don't view them as animals or even pets for that matter but as a close friend or family so approaching things from that angle might give you the extra nudge to be a better practicing physician! anyway hope my little piece helps and good luck

Read a lot and practice, practice and once more practice...I know coz I am a vet myself...Depending where you want to go you should check the website of the appropriate academic institution to learn about their curriculum, summer activities etc....Good luck
