That's easy! A diaper cake is super unique, super adorable, and totally practical. It will be the talk of the baby shower. Have a look:

Enjoy the baby shower!

Since you don't know if its a boy or girl yet, how about giving

- a gift certificate for free babysitting (only if you live nearby)
- Bath time items (rubber duckies, bath tub, wash clothes, shampoo, body wash, baby powder, qtips, baby lotion)
- Onsies (get the ones in white and for an added touch you can add the last name of the baby or decorate some onsies yourself, this is also a good baby shower activity)
- A baby grooming set (nail clipper, brush)
- Anything for the car (carseat, little toys to keep the baby occupied)
- A cd (you can compile a cd yourself or buy one at the store)

Hope this helps!

I actually saw something very cool the other day- they have the first 5 seasons of Sesame Street (1969-1974) on DVD now, and it would be cool because it is retro and fun, and also everyone knows that Sesame Street used to be way better back in the day before that little crap-weasel Elmo came along and ruined everything, am I right??

Another idea- there is a CD of classic Beatles songs re-worked into lullabies. It is very beautiful and unique. I believe it's called "Baby Road."

Don't buy anything that is necessarily for a boy or girl. Buy the things that some parents don't think about having such as tylenol and baby q-tips, clippers, gas drops, on the go diaper trash bags, etc. Small stuff like that. Baby wash clothes, towels, diapers, wipes, or how about umbrella stroller. Eventually they will use it. Believe me as a mother they are much easier.

You could get her a diaper cake or make one. Your gift would be different and would be remember. Or you could get a diaper wreath. Or even something for the mom because not many people think of the mom. Like a towel cake or a day at the salon.
good luck I hope this helps

Maybe buy an outfit probably aged 3 months + as alot of new mums get new born and they grow out of it so quick and don't get a change to wear half of it!
Or like a teddy with baby shampoo, baby bath wash, cotton wool, wet wipes, nappy cream, cotton buds make up your own little set of baby things.
I wouldn't go for things like socks, hats as parents get loads of them and if you get clothes then do go for 3 months+.

Cover that goes over the car seat over the baby. Bouncer that hangs on the door jamb. A certificate from you to babysit when ever she needs a break. Food delivered to her door for a month so she doesn't have to cook supper.

when one of my former boss' had his 1st baby after they had tried so long i wanted to do something special for him and his wife. i bought a nice basket and put together some baby essentials that not every new parent thinks to get in the basket w/a nice card. i put in cute "i love daddy/mommy" bibs, mirror to see rear facing baby in the car- can be found in most baby aisles by the window shades, a window shade for the car, some lotion for mom, a cute pair of booties- whatever you think they'd like. that way it wasn't expensive yet it was very personal :)

get her something off of her registry. Though its a nice thought that you want to get something "special", she needs and wants all of the things that she put on her registry. I jsut had my own baby shower this past weekend. Most of my gifts were off my registry, and there were a couple that werent. Of course I was happy and grateful to receive them all, the ones I really wanted and needed were off my registry.
