I don't like any of these answers. It doesn't occur bfore the complication - it occurs after. It doesn't have to be a physical event or happening, it can be a decision someone makes. It doesn't have to involve the antagonist, it can involve the protagonist or any supporting characters. It doesn't have to be the most exciting part of the story - often the complication is the most exciting part. I hate multiple choice questions. They are such a cop out for teachers because they are easy to grade. I never used them. There are too many variables that make all the choices invalid. Pax - C

A: Usually no, but books-- like any art-- are not so predictable.
B: No, like Persiphone says above, it can be a decision; it can be mental.
C: If it's an action story, it might have some showdown between the antagonist/ protagonist at the climax... but again, not always. (Be wary of the word "always," too). Look at "The Great Gatsby." Gatsby and Tom Buchanan don't fight it out over Daisy; Tom just tells Wilson, the mechanic, that Gatsby ran over his wife, and Wilson shoots Gatsby-- Tom is never there. So the climax "involves" Tom in a general sense, but he's not there.
D:This is an opinion.

After reading all your questions posted on here today, I believe your teacher has problems writing multiple-choice questions. I've heard some bad ones, but these are all very bad. You're not the only one who doesn't know how to answer them.

d - that's almost like a translation of the word climax - ie the point at which all the tension accumulates, everything comes together, sometimes with a loud bang, sometimes inside somebody's head. But it's the moment everything before has been leading up to - and everything that follows depends upon.
