Any spinning mass will be equally attrached to the center, since the spinning force is uniform in all directions. Sphere is the only shape where all particles on outer surface are equal distance from the center.
If you totate a mass of wet mud like rotating top, it will become sphere.

A sphere has the smallest possible surface area for a given volume.
Gravity causes the spherical shape because this is the lowest possible energy state. All the mass wants to get as close to the center as possible.

Because it's the most obvious shape to form from gravity. Since the force gravity is affected by separation, and is an attractor, it seems logical that as small pieces of mass come together they form a sphere.
