All they have to do is a background check. Many look back as far as seven years.

Most employers run a background check on prospective employees as part of the hiring process. It really depends on the employer. My advice is to be up front about your felony, particularly if there is a question about it on the application form. If you are already working for a company, I'm not sure how they would find out about a felony in your past unless they ran a background check for some reason. Many companies have a policy regarding employing someone with a criminal record, and if you lied on your application form, that is grounds for you to be fired.

Most potential employers ask about felonies on the job application. Some jobs require bonding which cannot be obtained with a felony conviction. If you lie on the application and he finds out later, he can fire you.

Well, if you fill out an application, he can perform a background check on you using your social security number and driver's license number. Hopefully, if you have a felony, you'll tell the employer on the application where it asks "have you ever been convicted of a felony?"

He can find out by doing a background search, and yes he can refuse to hire you, or if he already has and finds out later you can be fired if you didn't state the you were a felon on your application.
