Exactly what RKO said. I live in England right now and that's the system they have- National Insurance (Social Security) pays for all healthcare but if you wish to take out a private policy to get more comfortable hospitals and no waiting lists, you are free to do so (and it's not very expensive)- but if you can't you will still be covered for anything, without paying a penny.

Most people would pay LESS under this system because there aren't health insurance companies taking a huge cut. Only the very wealthy would pay more than it currently costs them to insure themselves and their families.

And re: quality- Chances are, if you can afford health care now, you could equally afford universal health + private if that system were adopted.

And I honestly have no idea what people are talking about when they bring "freedom", "choice" and "control" into it. With the current system your choices are being controlled by money-hungry insurance companies- ie which doctors you can see, which treatments you can receive- none of which are issues in a state funded system. And what freedoms does the current system bring?!! The freedom to not be insured?! The freedom to be bankrupt if you get cancer?! Universal health opens up so many freedoms- many people can only take jobs which are f/t with health benefits even though they'd rather to 2 p/t jobs or work for themselves, but can't pay the full cost of a policy. Not needing to worry about insurance is a huge benefit, not just to the poor who couldnt afford it otherwise.

It DOES work in other countries. Why not the US? People in Europe and Canada are able to see medical care as a right- it seems wrong that America, who prides itself on being the greatest place in the world to live, would have people grow up thinking that seeing a doctor when you are sick is a priveledge for the wealthy. I don't care how poor you are, everyone's life should be valued at least that much.

The government has made such a mess of health care that I am sure they are not the answer. Starting with Medicare in the early 60's, health care costs have increased dramatically to the point where people are having a hard time affording it. For a while, insurance helped, but not even that is starting to lose out to the rapid increase in cost.

Even though we can barely afford coverage now, there are legislators working overtime to increase benefits (and thus the cost) for everyone. No one can argue that these are not well-intended changes, but the cost is now at the point where it is forcing companies out of business.

The private sector. State and federal governments already exercise too much control. The bureaucratic rules and regulations add significantly to health care costs.

Private sector.

Here is why
Look how efficient the Department of Motor Vehicles is run.
Look at the level of heath care provide by the VA.
Look at how well the Government's best hospital was run, Walter Reed. It only had people staying in rooms with mold and rats.

I am sure the Government would do just as good as job running the rest of the hospitals in the US.

in case you check out the U.S. positioned up workplace, Medicare, Social secure practices, funds For Clunkers, the Airline industry (pre-Reagan), and different government run courses....they're all mess ups. check out what the government has tried or honestly pushed by using as we communicate.....stimulus, 2010 funds, cap and commerce....those are all mess ups too. How interior the worldwide will the government run well being care whilst they lie, Congress does not study the expenses by way of fact the expenses are being written by using the Apollo Alliance...a socialistic / radicalistic company. And now the government desires to place the well being care of usa into their hands, and to have faith them. definite, there are adjustments including tort reform and tax credit and different techniques that have not been seen or are being skipped over that does no longer burden the tax payer whilst offering the coverage to those who desire / like it. do no longer forget that no person gets became away whilst they pass to the emergency room, so, extremely all of us does have well being care yet its a count of who will pay for it.

Should be freemarked based for heatlh insurance, but with tax regulation to prohibit adversion selection, genetic testing, age discrimination, and requirement that health insurance company boards have the following: One healthcare economist, one cosumer advocate, one medical professional advocate. These private insurance companies meetings should be public information, and heatlhcare courts should be set up for patients appeal heatlhcare discisions, or to charge patients, doctors for healthcare fraud. Healthcare should be delinked from employer payouts period, and the goverment should take medicaid, and medicare dollars and direct them towards a universal system, but private insurance companies should provide the care, but community ratings of carriers, and cost transpracy should be consplustory. Should be no-free riders of healthcare benefits, and people that refuse to purchase healthcare will be taxed at 5% of wages, and tax refund taken away from them because 15% of uninsured are services are being paid for 85% that are insurned SC 334 for Healthy Americans Act is good place to start to reform heatlhcare.
