You (or someone you trust) needs to be the only one who handles payments- of any kind. Then, tips can be disbursed accordingly. Cameras work too, but it may be an expense that you can't afford right now- but then again, how much are you losing from each transaction that's going into your employee's pocket? Good luck.

A good question, one that my own brother an me solved with his own 3 stores.

He owns 3 clothing stores, I own 4 furniture stores, so I generally don't have these types of problems as much.

To save money, buy 3-4 dud video camera's and wire them int the ceiling. Install a convex mirror at either end of the store (so no area is hidden), and when asked "why" all the high tech equipment -tell them (your staff) your getting a much better insurance rate because of it.

Remember, the vid camera's don't have to be hooked up, they only have to appear to be. Revealing little or no information to staff is key to creating the "fear" you need.

Step 2:

Hire a 2-4 buddies you know to pose as cash buyers in your store. Set up the sting on the employee, and when you find out who it is get rid of them.

Don't waste time and energy charging them or confronting them. Diplomatically "let them go" because things are "getting slower" and you need to work more yourself to "cover costs."

Too many people in business forget to prioritize, and worry about "pennies" when they should be worrying about dollars. One of my star Managers nails us for about 5 Grand a year, but she makes us 150K / Year in net profit on her sales alone, not including profit from other staff she manages.

I've let her steal from us for over 10 years.

Could you write the bill first, before the client is taken to the table and her nails done?
This way, the client`s name is on the reciept and the operator`s name is on the reciept and if the register is short, see who did not sign/initial the reciept when the nails were paid for.
Or
Have the procedure paid for in advance and only one person is allowed to accept the payments.
