You are responsible for your own taxes. Anything you make from each company for a year $600. or more you have to pay taxes on. They also don't pay benefits such as health care, mileage, etc. But most of the time you decide which jobs you want to do, unless you hire on for a specific job like 1 hr. a wk. at Krogers changing DVDs or something like that.

Each job has it's own regs and rules. Depending on the particular job. Basically they pay you so much per job. Sometimes they reimburse you for eating out and doing a survey later. Sometimes they pay and reimburse you. But each place you work for has an agreement you sign and explains what is expected of both you and the company.

With jobs you self assign there's usually a certain time frame of 3 or 4 days to get it done. Some you have to make a small purchase (which is reimbursed), some you just observe customer service. Some pay every 2 wks. But usually it takes 4-6 wks to get reimbursed unless it's a regular hour or two job you do.

If you want a list of places that are free to sign up go to my personal website at http://locofortrains.com I have quite a few listed there that include merchandising, mystery shopping, etc. I created it after getting fed up with places that charge you to tell you where to go look. There is no good reason to pay to find places you can sign up to work. In fact many companies get angry if they know you paid to get their address and want you to report them.

But other than the above I can't think of any rules or regs.

If you are an independent contractor, you have to take care of your own taxes, since nothing will be deducted. You'll pay both the employee and employer halves of social security and medicare. You'll need to make quarterly estimated payments and pay the taxes you owe for that quarter's earnings.
