last year Troy Smith really looked like a Heisman winner when he was getting chased down and sacked from behind by Florida.. VY looked like an all-pro QB vs USC in 2005.. so I was just pondering this because I read Terry Bowdens collumn on yahoo sports.. it said basically that the winner of the heisman will be the QB or RB from the #1 team at the end of the season regardless of wether or not they are the best player in college football.. strangely I agree with that assessment

not my logic... it's how things are these days.. the #1 team going into the title game will have the heisman player on it.. that's not right at all unless the guy really is that good.. something on principal I disagree with

dude we keep agreeing on things and it's freaking me out.. lol.. actually I can name someone right now who'll never even get a mention for Heisman but he's about to set an all-time record for sacks.. (hate to bring up Auburn here but this is noteworthy) Quentin Groves will break the schools All-Time Sack record.. which could be passed off as nothing but he's passing a HoF player in Tracy Rocker (who's like 6th all time NCAA in Sacks I believe but that's not a hard fact)..

1.There are too much pressure being aimed at the winner in his bowl game
2.The season is not over yet.
Let the season end then select your Heisman winner.

that might help, but i would worry that a stellar performance in one game(like VYs in the Rose Bowl game) might over shadow another players great performance for an entire year and sway the voters. for example, was VY the best player that night? YES! was he the best player that year? NO (but he did have an awesome season!)

i read the same article and thought the same thing...while the heisman should get the regard it holds, i still think too much emphasis is placed on the award. all year long "analysts" will talk about who is up for the heisman...theyll talk about the same 5 players all year, till one of their teams loses a game then all of a sudden that guy doesnt deserve it??? makes no sense!!

or what about the O-Lineman who doesnt allow a sack all year, why isnt he up the award?? or the LB who sets the most tackles in a year record?? or a DT who sets the records for the most sacks in a season???

it seems like every year its between the top QB and top RB from the top 2 teams...doesnt seem fair.

it all comes down to entertainment value. QBs and RBs are always going to be the most entertaining positions, therefore theyll always receive the most notoriety.

In the past the Heisman was awarded by the Downtown
Athletic Club, a private organization in New York city. But the DAC went under after 9/11, so ownership of the Heisman "organization" is sort of in limbo right now.

The Heisman is supposed to go to the best all around player in the game. By your logic it would go to the best player on the best team. Just because Texas found a way to shut down Reggie Bush in the 2005 championship game doesn't mean he wasn't the best player, or at least better than VY over the course of the college schedule. One game doesn't make a season. I think it's better to look at the body of work and for that to be fair you have to disregard the bowl games.

No. By then, no one would care. It is for the regular season only. They have to have somthing to fill the time between the last game and the Bowl games. There is so much time in between that people would forget the regular season, and give it to someone who had one good game in a Bowl game.

YES! they definately should. i think that reggie nelson (after the champ game) looked like he earned it!! i think that it should take place after the championship game. i mean for troy smith its not thard to win it when you play no name teams the whole seaason.
