They should be spend here in the USA. Not in foreign lands helping out people who don't like us anyway. How about improving the infrastructure (I35 bridge collapse)? Getting healthcare costs lowered (oh yeah, the healthcare industry is the largest lobbying group in Washington)? Making Soc. Sec. solvent for the long term (politicians get a better retirement plan than that so there is no incentive)? Fixing the tax system (when the guy in charge of the IRS says even HE doesn't understand the codes we have a problem)? Better education (WHAT!? An educated public! Keep getting cheap asian materials and outsourcing our jobs).

I could go on forever. Point is this: we need our $$$ to stay in our own country along with our troops. Take care of your own backyard before you worry about your neighbors weeds.

My federal tax dollars should be spent only on the things defined in the constitution. This would be the common defense. I could also support the postal service. Everything else should be left to the states. Federal laws should be few and stringent. The Congress should only meet for 3 - 4 months every other year and the congressmen should do this on a voluntary basis. The only paid position should be President.

Actually, Taylor stated the obvious. The government should not be involved in pyramid schemes that are illegal to operate otherwise.

At the federal level, the government should be out of the education business, the health care business, the prescription drug business, etc... The only constitutionally mandated requirement of the federal government is to make laws and provide for the common defense. Everything else should be in the hands of the states.

With transparcey. Spending should be transparent, and the budget easy to read for the common person.

The federal goverment budget by law should be looked at by non-partisan departments to ensure transparcey in the process. The goverment job is to the serve the people not the narrow group of lobbies on the left or right. Programs that have narrow benefits should be cut, and non-partisan officals should have legal power to cut programs if they deamed a waste of public funds, or have narrow benefit to the general public.

Its both parties that waste money in my opinion, and goverment should not fund it if the benefit is narrow in scope.

1. National defense
2. Public Infrastructure
3. Necessary services that individuals cannot do for themselves (fire departement, police department, jails, safe working conditions).

I would like the government to do the bare minimum, and take the bare minimum of my time, money, and property.

I've often though it might be cool if you got a little scantron sheet with your tax return, and bubbled in which broad programs you want funded. The hawks could bubble in 'military spending' and 'CIA assassinations,' the hippies could bubble in the 'EPA' and so forth.
