(this data was confirmed by Al Gore's chief advisor, James Hansen) shows that the Earth has not increased in Mean Average Temperature since 1998?

Rational Thinker…

Your response shows anything but rational thinking. The percentage of CO2 in our atmoshere is so minute a factor, we can pretty much discredit it's "contribution" to Global Warming. It has also been proven that CO2 and the Global temperature are NOT IN SYNC with each other. The greatest factor are the many other gases in our atmoshpere, solar cycles, & the increase in water vapor around the Globe.

Quantum…

Thank you for your response. Finally someone understands the truth behind Global Warming. I know the truth behind it. I posted this question in hope that someone would answer as you did. I am tired on the (overall) One-sided argument that mankind is the major cause of Global Warming.

This question came to mind because it was just reported that some jagoff congressman from California has proposed a bill to Congress that if someone has been affected by Global Warming in some way, they will have the right to sue the Federal Government for reparation. HOW INSANE IS THAT!!??

Starry-eyed…

Oooookay! Here we go. Little known fact that is so often left out in "Global Warming" articles. (Even as I concede the fact of Ice melt in many areas.)

The average thickness of the ice sheet covering Antarctica is actually increasing. In recent years the thickness of the ice near the South Pole has been increasing 3 times as fast as the ice is melting at it's edges. It is another one of those cyclical things…Perhaps you have heard of that?

But, don't worry… we have already reached our apex of this current warming period of the Earth.

The same people who are hootin' & hollerin' about "Global Warming" now are the same people who were screaming about "Global Cooling" in the 70's

20 foot rise in the oceans… GOOD GOD! *sighs*

The link that Redbird posted is where the information is that I heard and then read.

Thanks Redbird

Also, not to turn this political, but everything seems to gravitate there anyway… Why is the Global Warming debate so polarized? Most of those on the left believe in "man-caused" Global warming, and those on the right know that Global Climate Change is inevitable. Temps will rise & fall over the years.

Curous Kitty...

I too agree that we should try to limit the amount of pollutants we pump into the air. Even thought the Earth will be here far after we are gone, I have children and I would like to leave them with a clean & livable Earth. If we go Nuclear power (the cleanest, SAFEST, and most efficient power on Earth) that would solve many of our problems. (Even the French get 90% of their power from Nuclear)

You got it all wrong Kitty Cat, I am one of the few who are on defense from getting the Global Warming topic shoved down our throats.

Ehh. I have wasted enough time addressing your foolish answer. (which doesnt correlate to the question at hand anyway. Just another agenda your trying to get across.

Worthless thoughts...? My thoughts are far more intelligent and thought out then yours could possibly be.

I wonder if man is really smart enough to build a computer model that takes into account all the complexities of global climate change. Now we find another flaw in the data. I guess science needs to take another look and reconsider. The real question seems to be whether man can affect the climate or not. If we don't take steps to protect the environment, we can make a mess of it. On the other hand, too many people want to use environmentalism as a political weapon to spread their form of control over others. If we can ratioanally debate the issues and look at all the data and try to find the truth, we will know what to do. I do not think being rational is too likely into today's polarized political climate. It is the polarized political climate that real global warming is occuring.

Given Hansen's history of accusing the Bush administration of hiding reports on climate change and his many reports on the climactic shift, I highly doubt James Hansen has suddenly changed his tune.

Hmm, I looked it up and apparently quantum claustrophobic is correct, scientists do agree that Mars is undergoing a global warming climate shift. Man cannot be blamed for that one so there must be some correlation between Earth's and Mars' warming trend due to an outside source like the Sun. The biggest debate is what we can and should do about it and how much (if any) impact our efforts will have.

It can also be assumed that those who are most loudly sounding the global warming alarm are those who stand to benefit the most (financially) from the spending of trillions of dollars to alleviate this "problem". Perhaps an investigation into the financial and business contacts of thes alarmists should be conducted to verify this conclusion.

Here is a scoop for you chief. A glass of ice water will stay at 32 degrees until the last sliver of ice is gone. Once the ice is gone, the whole thing warms up fast. Ice on Earth is melting at an unprecedented rate. When it is gone, steam coming from the equatorial ocean could happen within years. And the oceans will be 20 feet deeper. Check on how much land is less than 20 feet elevation. Why, I believe it includes your parents' vacation house. Oh, well! We wouldn't want to alarm anybody. Did you know polar bears are on the endangered species list because they have too little ice to hunt from. Rivers of fresh water a mile wide are pouring off the south pole. A chunk of an ice shelf broke off Antarctica bigger than two Rhode Island size states. As the icebergs drifted into warmer waters, it all melted in a single year. Now, don't be alarmed.

I'm not an alarmist, but a realist... the Earth is warming up. So is Mars. And even Venus. Since all 3 of these planets are presenting evidence of warming, the culprit has to be the sun.

The Sun does vary, slowly, over 100s of years; There is the solar cycle, along with the other oddities of the sun, which affect the amount of energy Earth receives.

While man probably isn't helping the situation, he's not the only player in town. Looking back in the geologic history, Earth's been *much* warmer than it is now, and *much* cooler, too - and not in regular cycles. We need to learn that the Earth is a living planet - and as much as we try to keep things the same, they're not going to stay that way. The creatures who don't adapt will die; those that do will live.

Remember that TV show where they mined a frozen wooly mammoth out of the ice?

Has everybody heard about how that mammoth and others like it have summer time plants stuck in its teeth?

So, the last ice age started in the middle of summer, and areas that were producing temperate summer vegetation are now still perma-frosted.

Where does Al Gore get off saying that Earth is the warmest that it has ever been, and blaming hungry polar bears on President Bush?

Global warming is natural and inevitable.

Al Gore, he was a Vice President, and they say don't believe anything a politician seas, because he will say or do something else.

It has been shown that the Earth has gone through tempter changes in the past, and if the world last long enough they will get to see and ice age again.

Do you ever see South Park with Al Gore, if you saw it, then you know what I mean about him.

Here's one article that should lead to the NASA site (which I read last week, but can no longer Google the link -- at least after a 3-page search).

That 1.5 degree difference puts 1934 as the hottest year on record (since accurate records have been kept) by some accounting methods.

Have a look at the graph in:

If this German research is correct, CO2 was higher than today in the 1820s and 1940s.

The 1820 date is very significant, because the industrial revolution had hardly started.

just another way of emptying our pockets for further analysis and other crap that they are doing. if they would leave the world alone and worry about what's going on now instead of something that is not for sure that will happen, just think what a better place the US would be.
