Being able to push a button and go say a 100 years back into time will probably never happen. But the time travel theory can be very possible but not on a scale as you have seen in movies or any of that. You can start on Einstein's theory of special relativity. If you want to read about it heres an article for you. It's where I learned of the possibility. By the way it'll probably confuse you like it did me and I'm not even close to fully understanding it or probably never will be able too. Enjoy = )

Don't know about traveling to the past, but maybe to the future is possible. Einsteins theories mention that the closer we approach the speed of light, the slower time travels to the traveler, as observed by an outsider. The traveler would'nt even notice any unusual change in time in their craft.
Upon returning to the starting point, the traveler would have noticed that Earth time is much more ahead than his time.
This has been proven with our astronauts going into space for a few days, with their clocks and ours syncronized exactly. When they returned, the clocks of the astronauts were a few microseconds behind ours. Considering they they're going around 25,000 miles per hour, the change is little, but still it happened.
Of course, the amount of energy needed to approach the speed of light would be....."astronomical." Harnessing such energy in one ship is impossible by todays technologies. Perhaps some new technologies will be invented someday to do this, then we'll see.

time travel "is" possible but like previously mentioned the amount of power required is unfathomable. The closer to the speed of light you get the more fuel you need to get there, and the heavier you are the more fuel you'll need to carry the weight, and as you use the fuel you become less fuel efficent because there is excess weight to carry.
As far as what i think about it, its freakin awsome and quite dangerous. imagine trying to solve all the worlds problems by going back in time, effectivly creating new ones.
I highly doubt time travel will ever be a fully funded area of science. As its more important to discovers the secrets of the universe, and if we can ever manage to approach the speed of light it will be used to travel to distant worlds in a few years. That would be more interesting to me than the prospect of going back in time to win the lottery with about a million other people who got the same idea.

Yes, but time traveling back into the past wont allow for communication, intervention, or, interaction with previous history. This all will occur in other dimensions that will be exact replicas of the Universe.
So, if you travel back in time to see a younger you, it won't be the REAL you, but an indistinguishable copy of yourself which exists on a different slab of the Universe. :)

well saying that because we see no one from the future means that there is no time travel could be incorect. If I were to come up with some time agency I would make rules like you can't be seen unless you are dressed for the time and that you can't tell anyone. If time travel was real surly there would be Time Law. but anyways I think that it won't happen.

In a way yes, if you travel deep into space you see things as they were in that time period. So if you travel to the Pleides you'd see the star cluster the way it was when it was first descovered by the ancients, but traveling back in ancient times (to the time of Sparta or any other time period) is impossible.

After reading the article about it yesterday I am not optimistic that it will ever happen. I think someone is just creating a lot of hype in an attempt to get research funding $$$.

Tine travel is the fancy of science fiction fans. It can't happen.

Nope.
If they could, we'd be seeing them already.
Do you think most people could dress and act "local" enough to pass as someone in the 15th century? If not, why would they be able to do so now?

That would be cool if it works. More than likely we all wouldn't live long enough for them to finish a fully-working time machine.
